Communicating the Differences

I have spent the past two years working with a district aligning their curriculum to the CCSS in mathematics.  We are now at a point where this work we have done can be communicated quickly and efficiently to other teachers in the district and the board of education.  The process described below is how one district chose to communicate the differences.
This process was duplicated at each grade level after substantial work with the CCSS document.  It was designed for three purposes:
1.  To communicate clearly with PLC teams.
2.  To communicate general changes to the board.
3.  To focus the depth of understanding required to create end of year assessments.

Step # 1 - Highlight the differences in the new revised curriculum document (aligned to CCSS)

Step # 2 - Use the tool, Survey of Enacted Curriculum (SEC) online, to check and further your understanding of the differences between old standards and new aligned standards.

Step # 3 - On the attached chart, record the following:
A.   What has been added to your grade level standards? (more emphasis)
B.    What has been dropped from your grade level standards? (less emphasis)
C.    Which standards require higher Cognitive Demand/Category?
D.   What are the anticipated professional learning needs for your grade level?

Step # 4 - Use this data chart to share with your co-workers about the changes that need to be made now that we are aligned to CCSS.  Continue to add to the chart about anticipated professional learning needs.

A copy of the chart used by each grade level is attached. 2CCSS - Table for Process to Communicate
