Developing and Assessing Number Sense -
In this workshop PreK- 2 teachers will be exposed to the necessary building blocks
necessary for a child to develop true number sense. Many times in education we attempt
to solve a symptom, when we need to be addressing the core of the problem. The focus
of this workshop is to provide teachers with the understanding necessary to identify the building blocks in developing number sense and to provide teachers with appropriate lessons and a diagnostic tool in which to measure students number sense. During the workshop we will also be looking at specific student cases to diagnose their level of understanding of numbers.

Books -
1. Solve It Through Stories - Collection 1
Creation of integrated curricula, rather than segmenting education into distinct subjects,
has several advantages. Literature is a marvelous tool for supporting problem solving
learning. The use of a book is especially valuable for making children aware of the many
ways mathematics is used in their everyday lives and thus promotes the MCTM curriculum standard on mathematical connections. Collection 1 uses 15 literature stories to speak to the heart of the child. Three of the stories include a multicultural perspective. Included in the book are all of the necessary blackline masters needed for the activities.
